Conventional wisdom would say that with the job Salyers and Adams have done but what if Hamilton at Coeburn continues to build that program and would upset someone in the playoffs? If Palmer were to get the job at PV and they had a nice run the next two years he has more experince than both Jimbo and BI it could be a little more interesting and give all of us a lot to discuss.
B.I. really has no interest in sticking around he is trying to get out of Wise as it is and wants to move on to other pastures.
Some people on here actually think Powell Valley is still a great coaching job, but it all reality it is not even a top five coaching position. I am surprised that it has drawn what little interest it has. Who wants to come to a down program in the mess that is Wise Co. Schools and get in a political firestorm and coach football. Powell Valley is not the second best program in Virginia and has not been for ten years. When will reality sit in and when will people realize that PV is just about to be a footnote in the history books of VHSL football. You can not continue in the past so you might as well get ready cause things are changing.
If someone goes into a job interview and they have coached at powell valley and had a .500 or better record, he is going to have a much better shot than a guy who comes in from coeburn with the same record, politics aside. PV may not be what they once were, but you can't dismiss the history, especially when you leave Southwest Virginia. That's my point.
How can you say or think that? PV may not be what they used to be. They're obviously in a big drought that they may not get out of because it's not going to last much longer as a school.
You can't ignore what all Powell Valley has done. It's like Notre Dame. They're not really any good now but if their coaching position is open, you can't ignore their past. The same goes for Michigan, who unless I am wrong has the highest winning percentage.
Right now, I believe Powell Valley, just in 30 years has the most state titles of any A school in Virginia. They may not be any good right now but you can't ignore that.
Whoever gets the position (Travis) they will have some good athletes to work with. Things will get on track and they will be able to compete. We have to admit that PV has a heck of a schedule to compete in as well, I think this makes teams better when they play better competetion guys. I am sure the weight lifting program will be a high priority along with discpline to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done and do it that way all the time.
